$54,000 for WHAT?!
Internet, check this out.
An anonymous buyer purchased a $54,000 bottle of Scotch at a Christie's auction today.
My first question is: I wonder where he/she will drink this?
And alone or with friends?
And, will said buyer tell the friends, "You wouldn't believe how much I spent on this"?
Or will he be nonchalant, putting it in the cabinet between the Sprite and the Wheat Thins?
Also, before we get all self-righteous about a) drinking Scotch b) drinking at all or c) spending that much money on ONE ^&*!$% bottle, what is it that we ourselves might buy for that amount and other people could say, Are you NUTS?

We're pretty sure mom would like cheap wine just as well, and it seems like it would be hard to enjoy something that expensive.
Yeah, like you might spill some and say, "Oops, that was about a $14,000 drop."
Welcome back!
I had part of a fabulous bottle of wine one time. I'm sure it didn't cost $54,000, but the wine steward at one of NYC's best restaurants looked impressed when my host ordered it. I mention this because the host, Adam Clymer, was then a reporter for the New York Times. Ah, 1972 was the year for Democratic liberals and reporters from big newspapers. Of course, we lost 49 states and reporters don't have bottomless expense accounts any more. Those were the days, at least in some respects.
Re: bottomless expense accounts--you got that right! :)
(Valerie/Ben/Dawn, ignore that.)
