Insurance woes
Read this about one Texas family's health insurance woes. If it doesn't make your blood boil, you are one cold-hearted fish--either that, or something like this has never happened to you. Thoughts?
Great link. I've had COBRA before and it can be a drag. It's also expensive. We need more and more people to write this sort of story and educate others how to handle problems. Speaking of problems, you may know I had my first (and I hope last) bout with diverticulitis and had to spend four nights in the hospital. Thank God for Medicare. The antibiotics I have to take are making me feel yucky (you know how that goes) but generally I'm OK. I had complaints about some of the nursing care I received. Some of the nurses and aides were just plain unfriendly. I solved things by asking twice to see the nurse in charge. That gets their attention. Once, the nurse in charge was the nurse who had been so grouchy. She changed. The nurse I had on Monday, the day I was discharged, was a dream. She was a dynamo and a pleasant, comforting presence. She told me she tried to treat patients the way she wanted her family to be treated. I had decided not to complain, but today the hospital called to ask how I was doing. I hastened to praise the Monday nurse and tell them they had a few grouches among their employees. Hope it will help. Won't mention the hospital's name, but I encourage everyone to speak up when they don't get good treatment. Of course, some times you are too sick to speak up, so it is up to the rest of us to do it.
If you are logging on to this site other than from the Ledger-Enquirer (Columbus, Ga.), this is where I hang my hat professionally, writing primarily about the faith community. I'm married to Michael. We have a cat named Bisquick who needs an exorcism. And a new kitten named Smoky!
